MCC is responding to flooding in Kerala state in India with local partner Gilgal Mission Trust (GMT). The response will support 500 households by providing tarps, food baskets, cooking utensils, cleaning and hygiene items. This project will primarily support migrant laborers and Dalit families to address their immediate needs.
Kerala state has been significantly affected by torrential rains since the monsoon season began in June. State officials report 486 people have been killed and 540,000 people remain displaced because of flooding and landslides. An estimated 147,000 homes have been damaged or flooded, and access to clean water and food supplies is a challengewith outbreaks of waterborne diseases increasing.
